You just bought yourself an iPad/Kindle/Nook/Sony Reader/KINDLE FIRE! or just want to read good materials.

If you didn’t, you should really get yourself a Kindle. Christmas holidays is in a month, time to get your family something useful!
One thing good about this is books range from any interest, so they are bound to find a subject that they are interested to read!

- For your parents – I know my parents love reading. This will be a perfect gift
-For your Kids – Nothing better then to encourage them to read.
- For your Friends/Family – They will love it!

You can drop by amazon and check it out!

All I can say it is VALUE!! =)

After getting them the kindle, with this guide here. They will be spending a lot of time reading and loving you!
Click on the Image Below to get it!

All e-readers offers books on their website/ibooks, paid and free. Great!
However, if you are looking to find more books or something that you are interested in but can’t find it in those shops.

This post will help you do just that!!

The web is huge!! You have no idea where to look. First thing you do is to search in Google. Typing Free Ebooks or Free Magazines!
Hopefully! You land here, then you are sorted! Unfortunately, many people end up in some confusing sites or just a bunch of lousy written books / magazines.

Here is a way to find the books/magazine you want. I’m just using the standard format for ipad/kindle. Kindle uses Mobi, while Ipad uses Epub. Both device will read pdf format(which is most magazines, and quite a lot of books too). I don’t want to list down what magazines or books you can find, as you have to do the work and you will be surprised by the amount of good books and magazines you can download for free.

There are 2 ways!

First Approach

Downloading directly from Books/Magazines Sites. I will list down the few that I use and then the way I search for books/magazine.

For books/magazine Galore. Check out : -

Ebookee – Tons of book/magazine update. All kinds of category, can be quite messy.

Ebook30 – Variety of foreign books and magazines. Great source too! And a lot of COMICS!

Ebooks Nest – Mostly computer books/magazines. Very good source.

For Magazines :-

Magazines Download - Very organised magazine updates

Pretty much ebookee and ebook30 covers most of the magazines you can find.
They will normally have a link to file sharing sites like Mediafiles/Rapidshare/Filefront/Hotfile/Filesonic.

*Edited*
Used to be hotfile, now seems like FILESONIC is the place to go. Tons of things to download with a filesonic account…leave me a comment to find out!

Register here : FILESONIC

—–

As these sites are very complex due to the amount of books they have.
I have found an easier way to search and go thru the updates.

Sign up for a Google Reader account.

You can add the RSS feed of the new books/magazine that gets updated and they are normally sorted by category in Ebook30.
For Ebookee/Ebook Nest, they are all jumbled into one rss, so it can be a bit confusing.

What you do is you add those Rss feed into google reader. They will be updated and listed.

At that point all you have to do is just Do a Search on google reader. They will search thru the list of books that is loaded in.

It will be easier to search this way, as compared to searching on those sites (Too many results)

Searching for *french*, you will get books/magazines in french or about french or learning french. So it is a very good way to search.

You can get a lot of good computer and business books too. Even Audio/Video guides to photography and stuff.

—–

Second Approach

This is a bit in the grey zone! Do as you wish.

This method uses torrent. (using torrent programs like utorrent for mac or pc)

Search for any torrent sites. Such as Torrentz, Piratebay.org
Personally, I use Demonoid ( it is a private site so it is safer in some sense Ie. No Virus or spyware in the files)

Depends how good the torrent sites are, most of them will have ebooks category.

All you have to search for is the author, the tittle, or you can just put in the format.

*Mobi* or *epub* even kindle or ipad books/magazine.

You will get a whole list of books/magazine to download.
There are book libraries you can download.
YOU CAN REALLY GET A WHOLE LOAD OF BOOKS!

Once you have those books, you can use a book library software called Calibre (which is free) to organise and upload to your kindle or ipad!

Upload it into your Kindle or Ipad reader such as Ibook/Goodreader (recommended), and you are GOOD TO GO!

Enjoy Reading! Feel free to contact me if you have better ways of obtaining good books!

My GF already told me. “You have an iPad what’s the point of getting this”

People don’t realise! You Can’t Compare!!

You can even make money with Kindle like this!
Find out Here!!

But I am not using it for making money! Just using it to read!

Yes, iPad is like an e-reader, but somehow it is just different. It is more like an entertainment device. I use iPad for movies, games, browsing, songs, and to read comics and magazines. Occasionally a book.

Somehow after using the kindle, it it’s a whole new level of reading. It is really a proper e-reader, for serious reading.
iPad is quite big and the Screen can be quite tiring to look at after awhile.

Been reading with kindle and it just feels like a book. It’s smooth and it doesn’t strain my eyes! (Will write a kindle 3 review soon!)

Finished a book by Lee Child called Worth Dying For in 2 nights. Pretty interesting story, but some parts you will think it is a bit unrealistic. Oh well it is fiction! I don’t read a lot, but finishing in 2 nights is quite an achievement!

Anyways!
Checked amazon & saw the bestseller was this! Loaded it up on the kindle and I’m ready for another round !

I’ll try create a widget or a page on the blog with what book I am currently reading. Will be quite cool to have a record of the books I have read.

So Stieg Larsson – The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!

I am now officially reading you!

Since getting my new phone, I have been more inclined to go out for a run instead of the gym.

Why?

Because finally I get to track my running.

The new Iphone is just great, with the multitasking capabilities just made it a whole lot more amazing.

It is really a smart phone, I get to track my pace, my distance, my time, play my songs, map my route, guide my directions (GPS), and a whole lot more.

Let me start with Nike Sensor. I have always wanted one, but I couldn’t justify buying an ipod nano just to be able to get the sensor, or to get the nike bracelet. But, my lovely/wonderful/amazing/perfect gf got me my iphone. The first thing I did after getting back was to order the sensor. Had to buy an armband to go along. Can’t run holding the phone, or let it bounce away in the pocket. (too risky)

Searched online thru ebay, nike shops, but the cheapest was still Amazon. Got the whole set for around £20ish pounds.

The armband I found was iGadgitz Black & Silver Reflective Neoprene Sports Gym Jogging Armband for Apple iPhone 4. £7.

Saw the photos and I was sold! Looks pretty good, not too bulky and it comes with a slot for my house key/coins. No more annoying key/coin jiggling in the pocket.

Used it. It fits comfortably. A little tricky with the screen coz of the plastic protecting it, but I love it.

Nice!

Handy!

And the sensor + the sensor pouch.

How it looks on my shoe

You can find all those listed items in Amazon.

That is where I bought all of it from, as far as I know it is cheaper than ebay.
Apple Nike and iPod Sensor

Now the apps!

Nike sensor is good because you get the sync it with the website, and it lets you track your distance, speed, time , set goals, set schedules, make or join challenges, and join a community of runners.

So after syncing with your sensor, an app will appear on the phone, and this is the screen.

Main Nike Plus App Screen

The screen while you run tracks the distance and all other info

What is so cool about it is the app is integrated to the phone, in the lock screen, if the home button is pressed. The music will soften and a voice will read out the distance, time, and pace. So you can just check how far you ran anytime without looking. REALLY COOL!

Running Screen

This history screen to monitor the performance.

History

Pro:

Integrated well with the phone system

Accurate distance so far

Awesome monitoring with sync

Cons::

No easier way to change songs 0r playlist (to change songs you have to swipe to unlock and change, for playlist you have to go all the way out to the ipod app player)

No GPS tracking

To solve the gps problem. I found another app that is great by itself. With the multitasking function of iPhone. Both systems can be running for optimum monitoring.

It is called ENDOMONDO.

It is also another sportish community. The app tracks the performance by using gps coordinates.

They have voiceover to inform you when you reach a certain distance.

Main Screen

Running Screen

The best part of this is you get a map that maps out your route, and shows it in your work out history.

MAP IT!

Pros : Great app to track performance and tracking it visually with the map.
Cons: Not as integrated as nike app.

Lastly!! TomTom App.

Let us visualize how iphone is just great and how it just works. With Multitask function on iphone…all the apps are running while you run.

Wake up in the morning! Check Weather App for the weather or Weather Pro or Megaweather for more detailed timed weather report. It says sunny! you get ready to run!

Turn on Nike+ and Endomondo…start running. While listening to the radio via RadioTunes app or Spotify App. (or pandora in the US) or just the music on the phone.

See a beautiful view…take it out and take a photo or a video in hi-def.

Twit about it or facebook it in twitter app or facebook app, maybe reply a mail.

Continue running….You want to try a new route..you end up in a place you have no idea how to get back from…turn on TomTom App (a bit pricy but worth it)

This is what you will see..

Set it to your home, and get back to nike app while tomtom is running in the background and will tell you the direction to get home while you are running!

TomTom Main Screen

The Map

See what I mean…..Everything just works together. Like what mr apple says….IT JUST WORKS.

Give it a try…

These are all the recommended apps for running/jogging/walking/cycling, anything.

I did it! Jailbreaked my Ipad 3.2.1 (WIFI MODEL).

Due to the traffic to jailbreakme.com and http://jailbreakme.modmyi.com/_/.
You most probably end up with the Purple screen and stuck at it.

Found out there is a way to Jailbreak thru iBooks using syncing thru Itunes.

However, I found a way to do it without Itunes or jailbreakme. Just with GoodReader.

This will work in Ipad 3.2.1 wifi (Works on mine)
Might work for iphones and itouch..but not tested!

What you need is!- Goodreader App
- Ibooks

These are the 2 things you will need.

Get on to GoodReader app, and click on Web Downloads-> Browse the Web

Type this link

http://jailbreakme.modmyi.com/_/

You will see the list of devices and pdf files. Choose your device and click download the pdf file.

After Downloading the file.

Click Manage -> select open in

and Open in Ibooks. In Ibooks head to the pdf section.

Click on the white pdf, which will ask you to download and install.

After less than 1 min, you got your ipad or Iphone or itouch. Jailbroken!
My Cydia didn’t show up after the process.

I rebooted my ipad, and the Cydia icon showed up!

Hope this helps

Enjoy!!

Update: It looks like you can just jailbreak it thru GoodReader. Just download and launch it on goodreader. (I did not do it this way so I’m not 100% sure)

Update 2: Saw some post with my link on it in Italian, apparently it did not work on his Ipad 3g. So I am not sure if it works or not, but I read that comex will come up with a patch for that. Sorry if your 3g doesn’t work.

Bought my Ipad recently. A little bit pricey to get it over here with the VAT nonsense, but still worth it!

I wanted a colour e-reader, and to be able to look at photographs and books. An added bonus with the capabilities of watching videos, listening to music, games, and other awesome functions.

So Ipad was the best option in the market for it. Kindle, nook and sony e-readers are good e-readers but just can’t compete with the other functions.

Haven’t updated in a while..so thought I post an blog about this app for the Ipad.

This would be considered the best e-reading app on Ipad. It is even better than Ibook, it is not as visually pretty as ibook, but function wise it is just packed with everything.

The best thing about it is it cost so little for the amount of benefits. So this is worth every penny!

It cost £0.59, by far the best app I bought from the apple store.

You can transfer documents using File Transfer itunes ipad app section, to the ipad. Formats such as Pdf , images, any text doc such as word or rtf.
Those files transfers really quickly.

GoodReader for Ipad

My Ipad Screen with GoodReader in the Main Dock

The Main Screen of GoodReader

Not many e-reading apps have file organisation.
GoodReader does it well being able to sort it out in the app itself.

You get to create folders, rename, password lock it, and many more.

Magazines + Books

As you can see, the girly e-magazines you can buy and load it in your GoodReader. It just makes it so handy on the go, to read it anywhere!
Business people can get economist, fortune and many more. Artsy people can get all the artsy magz..so anything goes!
PDF books looks great too.

Although its more presentable reading epub format in IBooks.

Esquire Magazine

One example of how it looks like on the ipad, tab the middle of the screen and you get the full screen of the magazine, and you can flip thru it.

Downloading documents on DropBox

One thing good about goodreader is that you can download your documents from you file servers. Servers that i Highly recommend is DropBox.

I just regretted that decision, because Mail is disgustingly unreliable!
The application was running, while my batt was running low, and when my Macbook died, the database died with my mail.

Restarted the laptop, launched Mail, and all my 6 mail account setting was wiped out!
All my old emails from 4 years, all went missing!!!
Tried to find a way to retrieve the data, but it seems like there is no hope.

Initially, I thought Mail was more user friendly & reliable than Entourage, but I guess I was dead wrong.
The interface seems clean and simple to navigate, but it is just crap to use!
One thing I like about entourage is it seems complete, when you type an email address it searches a list of contacts and list them down for you to choose, for Mail you have to search for the contact in Address book to get them in.

So guess I’m going back to Microsoft Entourage, it is a little ironic going for Mac to Microsoft all over again.

I normally bitch and whine about things I don’t like, but this time I’m going to praise and compliment about things I do like.

That is the Polaroid Pogo, it is similar to Dell Wasabi printer, however, since I am using Polaroid Pogo, and I believe Pogo came out first before Wasabi, I’ll stick to Pogo.

The Pink Pogo

Its really sad that the Pogo is not available everywhere, and if it is available in your area (ASIA/Australian/Nz) its going to be really expensive. In UK amazon sells them for around £25 the last time I checked, and US is pretty much around there if you convert. It goes for $100 aud or more if you get it from shops over there, so everything in Aus is expensive! Paper is around £11 for a pack of 70, so its relatively cheap, compared to other places.

You can get it here!

I’ve bought the printer for me & my gf as a christmas gift for our travel, we both have a Moleskine Organiser and it was perfect to travel around with a printer and a diary. Print it stick it and write stuff about the travel, so its like a souvenir of that area.

This is not a printer for serious photographers that wants to sell the little 3×2 photos commercially, but it is more for people that wants to have something physical to touch and look at, and to keep. Its good for those sentimental emotional individuals such as myself, where I tear just by looking at a photo.

The quality clarity and color is not that good, but its really acceptable to have fun with. The photo is printed on a sticky paper so you can stick it to anywhere. Color may come out a bit off, but I guess it brings the artsy element to your photos.

The portable function is awesome, one full charge could print you around 11 photos, and the paper I bought one pack is 10 pieces. The printing takes around 7-10 seconds depending on the file size your sending to the printer. It is pretty simple to operate, there is just one button to switch on and everything is done on the camera, phone or laptop.

Most digital cameras now have pictbridge function, if your camera doesn’t have it, just throw it away and buy a new one cause its really old. I’ve printed photos using the USB pictbridge function from my D3, my lil sony and my gf’s casio point and shoot, and with bluetooth on my Macbook Pro. So tried and tested, those work!

The only issue with my POGO is that it can’t print from Iphone, because apple is too stupid to make a normal functioning bluetooth on Iphone. So other phones with camera should work alright with POGO.

Point form Review
Pros:-

Fun

Portable

Instant tangible memories

Perfect gift

Perfect travel accessory

Sticker photo

Comes in Black and Pink (girly version)

Cons:-

So So Quality of Colors and Print

Doesn’t Work with iPhone (not pogo’s fault)

Charger adapter is a bit big (but alright for 11ish prints)

Paper Cost (but acceptable)
