Wedding Photographer SUED!

Few days ago, I saw a post on photokaki.com (photo leg = photo member = photo enthusiast) about a couple getting back the money they paid the photographer for their wedding shots.

This happened a few months ago, the photographer’s website/company is not operating anymore!
It got SHUTDown after the news went international.
I feel sorry for the photographer, NOT!

There is one thing I’m super scared to do, WEDDINGS! Some friends told me, you can take my wedding? I’m always saying, maybe in a couple of years, I don’t think I’m ready….because ITS YOUR WEDDING!! I really don’t want to be that friend that screws up your ONCE in a Lifetime wedding photos!

But!! I’ll be taking my sister’s wedding in Dec…lol!! good luck Je! Guess family is okie… nomatter what happens my sis will still love me……

K back to Sued Wedding Photographer Story!

He is an idiot and he deserved it.
The photographer is called Gareth Bower, I think he started a new company or something.
He ran photography and video together, don’t know if he is doing it alone or with help.
While the wedding was going on in the church, his video tripod fell, and you could hear him swear in the video.
The amount he charge is not cheap, at £1,400. He should be at least good.
He’s been running his business for almost 2-3 years and only shot less than 10 weddings apparently, and a lot of them complained, but did not sue, TILL NOW.

Here are his shots, just to get a good idea of his skills…(no post-processing at all? maybe these were just sample?)
*Note* Found funny comments somewhere on flickr about his photographs from an unknown guy. So I decided to put them together.
Gareth Bower could actually be a photographic Genius..And what he did was REAL ART…Because the photos he took came with meaning.

The is real art!

Locked up: The bride walks down a path.

The over exposure is symbolic of the ceremony itself.

Get some perspective: These shots hardly capture the day

The dark church the role of religion.

Middle Bottom : The old man looking at the light from the door, is the final frontier AKA death.

Bottom Left: The lantern is a reference to the Greek philosopher Diogenes wandering the streets in daylight with his lantern looking for his honest man. When they asked him what he was doing, he would reply that he was looking for an honest man.

Middle Top: The old man behind the vertical wooden beams is the future role of man in the marriage.

I think is bottom Right : The bride running down the path just after a gamma ray flash is indicative that no matter how far you might run from the marriage it will always be burnt into your memory.

Marc and Sylvia Day

The distortion of scale in the shot, making the bride seem larger than her bowing groom is a statement on how a woman's role in a marriage has changed.

Missing something: Mrs Day arrives at church, but the driver has been decapitated

Refer to the other middle left too: The coach drivers head amputated signifies that it doesn't matter who drives you in life....u will not be in control..

There goes the bride: A stomach-churning angle

The Lonely Shoe : How he tilt the frame to capture the moment (GOLD)

There are other photos, but these are the few important ones…

Final insult: Thankyou cards provided for the newlyweds by the photographer to send to their guests are emblazoned with their misspelled names

Sylvia & Marc

And the photographer misspelled their names in the thank you card.

You can find more info, like the video and other stuff on google, just look for the legendary Gareth Bower.

There is even one page that says..Leave Gareth Bower Alone, all you guys want is more more more!!

So choose your photographer wisely, get recommendations (friends/family/blog/sites), and look at their work!
A lot of their work, to know its not just a few good ones, but there is a history of hits….some wedding photographers just put up a few of their good 1-3 shots, and the rest hidden.
And finally, Don’t be stingy! Its once in a lifetime thing, so choose wisely and PAY!
Unless your marrying a few times.

Good Night!

  • [...] Most photographers will have a website, but make sure to check out thier portfolio. Look around different photographer’s work, you can get  a general idea of the quality of work, and if its up to your standard. Sometimes, its not the money, its the quality and how much you like it. Generally, experienced/good photographer will charge a premium, but its worth it. You really don’t want to go thru this process, where the couple sued a photographer for poor work. Read it Here!
